Whatever drew you towards Tai Chi and internal power training, whether it was the flailing silk tassels of a tai chi sword performance or the lightning fists of a kung fu master, find out more about the realities of training here in these frequently asked questions.

  • Private training sessions are available both in person and remotely. Small groups can be considered. Initiation into the system has proven to be quite effective remotely. Alternatively a subscription service is available which provides for weekly training packages by email and opportunity for follow up questions or video critique. A combination of both of the above would allow for the greatest progress although in reality, subscribers are often provided with additional personalised content. In order to provide the best possible service the number of subscribers and trainee instructors is limited. Weekly outputs generally take the form of a pdf, or a pdf and video that are complementary.

  • This is a good question as martial arts instructors dragging out a syllabus whilst students continue to pay fees is often the elephant in the dojo. This is a moot point if the instructor is providing playful and fun training sessions, is supporting a combat sports or military/security career, or is on a training journey of their own which is worth following. With hard work 18 months or so should be sufficient to be able to take the skills over the line yourself, though continuous development is pretty much limitless and you may just enjoy being part of the community. There is also the option to go on to instructor certification. Of course the timeline of progress is very much dependant on the individual and their work rate.

  • £40 (GBP) for a single session or £80 per month to subscribe. Payments are generally made via Paypal using the email address on the contact page, by bank transfer or through this website if available for your selected service.

VIP packages are available on request.

The complete instructor certification is £3,300 in advance and the whole course generally takes no longer than a year (often much quicker with experience and hard work) to complete subject to the standard joining requirements being met. Timeline can be negotiated prior to commencing.

  • Yes. We would expect a skilful and creative coach to bring in variation to the teaching material. We will work together to ensure this can be done utilising our ethos and technical principles to facilitate safe and effective teaching.

  • Yes. A multi-layered approach is aimed for with each training package so it can be worked at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level. We’ll need to talk to refine your goals at some point in order to fulfil the 18 month timescale mentioned above. Any shortcomings in the accessibility of the content can be overcome by sending in your questions. This should start a dialogue that will send your training off in some cool and unique directions. Whilst a one week turnaround on email responses is targeted (it’s often much quicker), it may take longer during busy periods.

  • Whilst we have some things to say on the subject, if this is a priority you are much better off finding a good combat sports gym or well endorsed self-protection specialist. However if it is mutually beneficial, we will consider producing a self defence programme. There’s plenty of martial type training involved in the standard syllabus. Partner exercises (where a partner is available) as well as pad and bag/ball work are fun and develop awareness and heavy hands when done with functional relaxation. Weapons also add an extra dimension to your practice. Some quirky training apparatus forms part of the syllabus.

The main goal of training aside from the enjoyment, is to obtain unusual power and sensitivity which is the hallmark of Tai Chi skill.

  • No, first name terms. Everybody brings their own expertise, flaws and life experience to add to the collective energy.

There are also no unnecessary rules, no secrets, no egos, no silly costumes and no cult-like behaviours as found in some other schools. Just quality training at a fair price and cool people.

  • Digital products, merchandise and training equipment are on their way, keep checking in the store.

  • No, the syllabus is broad and adaptable. Be sure to read the disclaimer before making any commitment.

Practice can vary from very low impact up to very high impact depending on the experience you want.
