What’s the Point?
We were listening to a podcast recently and they were discussing the health risks around emitting energy powered by the dantien. They referred to it as fa chi, some would use the term fa jin but they were definitely discussing an energetic rather than physical phenomenon. They danced around who they were talking about specifically but the implication was it was the Mo Pai school and that particular brand of electric type energy and the health issues, particularly around heart health that practitioners have suffered.
If you have read much of our stuff you will know that we are no big fans of the dantien-centric model, and think of that area as more of a cauldron for mixing energies then any kind of storage. We also talk more in terms of zones of your body for energy work than specific circulations or points. For example the bottom half of your body being stable and yin and the top half being dynamic and yang is a very simple operation. Points are useful at times, for example when doing a palm strike if you just touch the laogong point with your intent it’s an effective catalyst to get the chi in your palm. In terms of cultivation we also use the chakra model for example if we’re working with light and colour.
When it comes to emitting whether that is for healing, martial purposes, manifestation or any other reason; in our experience it doesn’t help to have a complicated delivery mechanism, you just accelerate the energy through the point of contact (or no contact). If you have been doing your regular maintenance (which sounds like a chore but should be fun) everything will be flowing as it should be and is ready to go, you just need to put the pedal to the metal. You can replenish when you need to and ground out anything that has gone bad either shortly after the application of fa jin or as part of your regular practice.
Not only has this approach proven to be safe and effective (in the true sense not the 2021 sense, although recent revelations might suggest this mantra was formulated in 2018, hmmmm), it also is available to you in an instant.
