Project Stargate
At some point, can’t quite remember when, it became obvious that there was a stark difference between people who just did stuff and people who embarked on projects. The difference being that those who embarked on projects had a greater degree of focus. Projects, as opposed to just doing stuff, actually produce something. It may be something physical like forging your own knife for example with all of the learning, gathering of materials and time that would come with it. Or it may be something such as going on an expedition of some sort, where the outcome is the actual experience but also the pictures and reflections of the experience you carry afterwards.
A couple of examples that immediately spring to mind range from the downright silly to the profound. A friend of ours who is a military type created a alternative phonetic alphabet, replacing the conventional words with swearing and innuendo. He typed and printed it, even laminated it for posterity (goodness knows why it needed to be waterproof). As silly as it was it was actually a challenging and time consuming endeavour. At the profound end of the scale we were recently listening to an interview with ‘Sixty Skills’, a reasonably well know Hermetics teacher. He told an anecdote of one of his students who was using Sanskrit, Japanese kanji or Chinese symbols instead of, but corresponding with, the letters of the Kaballah. So for example the kanji for fire would replace the corresponding letter from Franz Bardon’s Kaballah, so as to get a different effect due to the egregoric component of the ancient kanji. Now that’s a project!
If you are embarking on a project where there isn’t a tangible output such as some kind of meditative or ritual journey, then as with all aspects of your practice, journaling is your friend and serves as the “stuff” that your project creates. This is something we should definitely remind people of more and do more of ourselves.
Aside from what is actually produced the most important thing that comes out of projects is that it somewhat elevates the individuals who embark on them. Kind of like a mini half-rung on the ascension ladder. And it may be you can flip this card again when you are further up and need a baby step to keep you moving upwards.
So if you want to become the GOAT, then focus your mind to launch a project that however obscure, by virtue of the fact it produces stuff and aligns your intent, will elevate you and maybe the wider community.
And finally, if you worked out the significance of the goat reference then drop us an email. First to get in contact will get some stickers in the post.
