Light Bulb Moment - An Accidental Ascension
‘It came to me in a flash, an idea so impressive, a coming together of thoughts that had long been brewing, so powerful that I seemed to float up out of my chair and on to my feet from the power of the thought alone.’
No doubt you will all be familiar with the concept of a light bulb moment. If that is lost in cultural translation for anybody Google will soon provide remedy. You will most likely have experienced it yourself to a greater or lesser degree. You may have found yourself on your feet like in the example above. Or perhaps holding your hand out with a finger extending upwards like a mudra indicating something heavenly. What you probably wouldn’t have noted at the time (because you were concerned with its intellectual component) or even considered in retrospect is the energetic nature of the experience.
We have spoken many times before including in depth in the Internal Power Training eBook about the geography of your various bodies both physical and energetic. These work in kind of concentric bubbles which is why they are often drawn in a diagram like layers of an aura but are quite different in scale, which can slow down the realisation of the geography in which they operate. However in this case probably a better model is the yogic idea of rising up through the chakras. Whilst the idea space exists in the astral, there is a sense here of the idea rising from below and up through the spiritual body to occupy the mental body.
Let’s take this a step further and assume the light bulb metaphor mentioned above is sufficiently present in the individual’s psyche to the extent there is a subconscious visualisation of said light bulb available to them. Then what you may end up with is an accidental pure light/divine light visualisation using the ball above head method, and if they were to project their consciousness sufficiently in to said light then you are actually looking at an accidental enlightenment level event.
Enlightenment level events do vary in their magnitude and they can be cumulative. This, along with the fact that there are varied definitions of what enlightenment is, is why we refer to ELEs rather than just “Enlightenment” with a capital E. Check out the Internal Power Training Manual in the store for a more in depth treatment of this subject.
It is worth noting that we don’t subscribe to the idea that spirituality is something that happens to you (apart from rare cases) so much as it is something you have to go out and get when you are called. If you want a blissful death then be sure you have to do the work in life. That way whether you see existence as divine or just somewhat mechanical, you have made the moves to get where you need to be at the right time.
We have spoken many times about the number of safety nets in our system. This includes avoiding physical injury, avoiding overly dramatic energetic awakening (kundalini syndrome) and achieving emotional regulation as opposed to emotional numbness. We would add to this the avoidance of messianic complex which is a common pitfall on the spiritual path. Quite ironic that we use this as a claim of the superiority of our system. Perfect we are not!
This light bulb experience also speaks to the principle that you need to some degree, to find your own ways to power your practice. Actually power may be the wrong word as you inherit the engine for your practice from a specific tradition, your personal inspiration is more of a catalyst. This could be through location, artifacts, visualisation, sensory input, to name a few. You may find yourself identifying gaps in your instruction and it may be that a nuance of the teaching has been neglected, but as you progress it becomes more likely it is in fact a call to action to put your own stamp on your practice.
This blog post has been sat as a draft for some time, so it is something of a synchronicity that it would see the light of day during a rare event where we have the Northern Lights visible in skies above much of the world, like a beacon signalling to start the revolution.
